ALL RIDE WITH... Lisa Buddenberg
From Weyarn, Bayern
Lisa Buddenberg originally comes from a small village between Bielefeld and Osnabrück. The vegan willpower athlete has been exploring the rough terrain of trail running for a year on her gravel bike, listening to 70s music – and scouting a steep orbit almost incidentally.

We meet you on your bike - what for, where to, on what?
What for actually, all this straight stuff? To discover new things, to feel free and to find inner peace. And maybe out of this training reason now and then, but that’s rather rare. Unfortunately, you don’t get any faster without intervals.
Where to? Always up a mountain or far away.
Where? BOMBTRACK Hook II. My first bike ever and therefore love at first sight. It has everything you need – an indestructible steel frame, lots of options for attaching things and big, chunky tyres fit inside too.
HOW DID YOU GET INTO CYCLING/CYCLING SPORTS?
Since 2017, I prefer to run through all kinds of forests and mountains with the best grip on my shoes. Last year, I couldn’t help myself and gave in to my longing for the mountains and moved to the foothills of the Alps. Since then, hardly a single day has gone by without me being on some mountain.
Too many metres in altitude too quickly unfortunately have no positive effect on rattled knees. And bang, diagnosis of cartilage damage in both kneecaps. Three orthopaedic surgeons told me to look for another sport that is easy on the joints. I’d have to be lying if I didn’t say that I resisted all other sports at the beginning.

It’s just like the first love of youth. It stands above everything else and can’t be replaced by anything or anyone. It’s the same with running for me.
But this gravel bike would be the equivalent of trail running, so I spent 2-3 hours on the subject and in the end decided on the basis of cool brand and looks anyway. That’s how I got into cycling. What I would like to add, now, after a year on the bike. Cycling is damn exhausting and nothing is given to you.
Even if you can easily run 50k through mountains and forests, that doesn’t mean you can ride super fast and far. That’s what I thought at the beginning, I have to admit. And it’s a damn great sport. Or a great way to travel. At least I’ve now taken it firmly to heart.

In a larger sense, actually anyone who outgrows themselves, is courageous, just does it!
